Letting 2023 Drift Away, Stepping Into 2024

To be honest, this was meant to be written around New Year’s Day, but I kept putting it off. I wanted to include a few moments from the holiday itself, and somehow that made it feel more worth keeping. One entry for one year — that has a nice sense of occasion to it.

Ever since leaving school, time has felt like it speeds up a little more every year. It really does start to feel like life is rushing forward before you’ve fully noticed it.

There isn’t all that much to summarize, really. I didn’t travel anywhere this year, didn’t go out to watch many movies, and rarely went out for meals either. So this will stay simple. Most of life, after all, is still made up of ordinary, quiet days.

About the blog

2023 brought a lot of changes to the site itself. There were updates to features, layout and visual style, page smoothness, and plenty of bug fixes along the way. On the technical side too, there was real progress, and that’s something I’m genuinely happy about.

As for the blog side of things, there were also a few numbers worth feeling good about:

  • 146 friends joined in learning and exchanging ideas together

  • 92 posts were published in total

  • 16 movies watched, all on my phone

When the blog was first being built, I had all kinds of ideas and wanted to try everything. But in the end, focus matters more. Little by little, the unnecessary parts will be removed, and writing with care is enough.

New Year’s Day

A New Year celebration wouldn’t feel complete without a table full of food. My contribution was modest: preserved eggs and duck eggs, cut in half. After that, I contributed my mouth and helped clear everything off the table.

A cup of tea, a sunset, and suddenly the whole day was gone.

Plans and thoughts for 2024

  1. For the blog: no major changes, but I do want to keep writing seriously and with intention.
  2. For work: keep pushing forward and keep working toward financial freedom.
  3. For life: eat well, drink well, and go out to see more of the world.
  4. For love: after all these years together, it still deserves care and attention.
  5. For my child: lead by example and be the kind of role model I should be.
