It Finally Dropped After a Month of Grinding

How this started

I’d been at this since around the Lunar New Year, but nothing ever came of it. So yes, it felt like it might happen any day now—but at the same time, not really, because whether it drops or not is basically all down to luck.

I’ve been doing this for close to a month. I had that item active for about 7 or 8 days total, not even every single day, and honestly it was a bit exhausting.

Then again, maybe “exhausting” is overstating it. Most of the time it just meant leaving my computer on overnight and letting software idle the game to farm materials.

And then it actually happened

Maybe my account’s luck changed a couple of days ago.

Three or four days before it finally dropped, I was still just tagging along with everyone else—still nothing for me. I was chatting in the group and complaining that I kept watching other people get their drops while I was stuck being the one who never hit. I even said, basically, “I’m out here running with you guys every day watching everyone else get lucky. When is it finally going to be my turn?”

That night, a good friend joked that maybe I should try changing my in-game name.

I really didn’t want to. I’d used that name for a long time, so I was pretty attached to it. But at that point it was one of those “might as well try anything” moments. I first thought of changing it to “陪跑,” but that one was already taken, so I ended up going with “陪跑达人.”

For the next couple of days after changing the name, I kept having this feeling that I was about to hit—but it still wouldn’t happen.

Then yesterday, after I’d finished everything and was about to shut down the computer, I left the game running again anyway. I figured I’d just keep being the backup guy for one more night. At that point I was already thinking, whatever, if it happens it happens, and if not, so be it.

And then—out of nowhere—

it dropped.

I shouted on the spot. The whole hallway probably heard me. I was seriously, ridiculously happy.

What’s next

I’m still going to keep it running.

If I get more drops later, I’ll keep posting updates until I’ve opened all the free items I want. After that, I’ll uninstall it. My rough estimate is maybe 1 to 2 years—though if luck is good, maybe half a year could be enough. It really depends on the numbers.
